Etymology[edit]

From Middle Median *arasan, from Proto-Iranian *raśanā- ‎(rope). Compare Manichaean Parthian rsn ‎(*rasan, rope), Middle Persian lsn' ‎(*rasan, rope), Persian رسن ‎(rasan) and Sanskrit रशना ‎(raśanā, rope, cord). The Parthian cognate was borrowed again as երասան ‎(erasan). See also ապարասան ‎(aparasan).
