Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *h₂r-nu-, from *h₂er- ‎(to take, acquire). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἄρνυμαι ‎(árnumai, to win, gain) and probably Avestan [script needed] ‎(ərənuuaiṇti, they grant).
