Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From the root *բուրդ- ‎(*burd-, to cut) of բրդեմ ‎(brdem, to cut to pieces). The word originally had a broader meaning “something cut out, extracted”. Compare the Georgian borrowing ბურდო ‎(burdo, chaff), which preserves the o-stem of Armenian, as well as its older meaning. For the semantic development compare կտուրք ‎(kturkʿ, fleece) from կտրեմ ‎(ktrem, to cut).

Noun[edit]

  1. wool
