From Proto-Indo-European *wr̥h₁ḗn (lamb); cognate with Ancient Greek ἀρήν (arḗn, lamb), Sanskrit उरण (úraṇa, ram; lamb), Persian بره (barra, lamb), Central Kurdish بەرخ (berx, lamb), Northern Kurdish berx / бәрх (berx, lamb).[1][2][3][4]
