From Proto-Armenian *wr̥r(e)n, from Proto-Indo-European *wrH(e)n. Cognate with Ancient Greek ἀρήν (arḗn, lamb), Sanskrit उरण (úraṇa, ram; lamb), Persian بره (barra, lamb), Central Kurdish بەرخ (berx, lamb), Northern Kurdish berx / бәрх (berx, lamb).
