Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Akkadian 𒅗𒉌𒄣 (kanīku, sealed object: document, bag, bulla, etc.) or 𒁾 (kunukku, seal-cylinder)[1][2][3][4], perhaps via Hurrian[5] or Iranian[6]. The alternation ī ~ u in the Akkadian words is perhaps preserved in Armenian կնիք (knikʿ) ~ կնունք (knunkʿ), կնուք (knukʿ).[4]
