From Middle Armenian ռամալ (ṙamal), ըռամալ (əṙamal), from Persian رمال‎(rammâl, geomancer, soothsayer, prophet, conjurer, fortune-teller), from Arabic رَمَّال(rammāl, geomancer), from رَمْل(raml, sand).
