Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

An Iranian borrowing: compare Avestan 𐬬𐬁𐬜𐬀𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬙𐬌 (vāδaiieiti, to lead). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *wedʰ-.[1]
