Etymology

A Middle Iranian borrowing equivalent to Persian ابزار (abzâr). Also in Classical Syriac ܐܒܙܪܐ (ʾaḇzārā, “appurtenance”).

Noun

אַבְזָרָא or אֲבִזְרָא / אֲבִיזְרָא • (ʾaḇzārā or ʾaḇizrā) m (plural אֲבִזְרֵי (ʾaḇizrē))

1. instrument, appurtenance
2. anything used for seasoning; spices, etc.

Descendants

• → Hebrew: אַבְזָר (ʾaḇzā́r), אֲבִיזָר (ʾaḇizā́r)
