[edit]From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (dlcyk' /darzīg/, “tailor”). Ultimately from Proto-Iranian *darz- (“to attach, fasten; to load; to sew”). Cognate with Talysh دشتن (dešten, “to sew”) (present stem: درز (derz)) (in Shaft).
Also from Iranian: Old Armenian դերձակ (derjak), post-classical դերձիկ (derjik), դերզիկ (derzik), Classical Syriac ܕܪܙܝܩܐ (darzīqā).
