From Proto-Semitic *riʾat- (lung, breast, chest); cognate with Hebrew רֵאָה(reʾá, lung), Classical Syriac ܪ̈ܲܐܘܵܬܵܐ(raˀṯā), Ugaritic 𐎛𐎗𐎚 (ỉrt), Akkadian 𒃮 (iratu).
