Related to Northern Kurdish zerêşk, zirêşk, zirîşk, Gilaki [script needed] (zərəšk); Persian زريک(zirīk), زرک(zirik), زرنگ(zarang), زراج(zarāj), زراک(zarāk); Yidgha [script needed] (azīto); Khotanese ysālva; all meaning "barberry" and ultimately deriving from the word for "yellow": compare Persian زر(zar, gold).
