Etymology 2

شیر (šir, milk) + an uncertain second part; cognate to Central Kurdish شیرێژ (şîrêj), سیرێژ (sîrêj) and Gurani سیراج (sîrac). Compare Persian شیرزا (širzâ), شیرزاد (širzâd, a fattening drug which gives an increase of milk), in Classical Syriac recorded in the form ܫܝܪܙܝܕ (šyrzyd) by Bar Bahlul.
