شیر(šir, milk) + an uncertain second part; cognate to Central Kurdish شیرێژ(şîrêj), سیرێژ(sîrêj) and Gurani سیراج(sîrac). Compare Persian شیرزا(širzâ), شیرزاد(širzâd, a fattening drug which gives an increase of milk), in Classical Syriac recorded in the form ܫܝܪܙܝܕ(šyrzyd) by Bar Bahlul.
