Etymology

From a Turkic source, such as Chagatai قوتاس (qotas), Azerbaijani qotaz, Ottoman Turkish خوطاز (hotaz); ultimately from Proto-Turkic *kotuŕ (yak). Alternatively, lexicographer Mohammad Moin marked it as the Arabicised form of an unspecified Greek term.[1]
