From Middle Persian *mālag, whence also Arabic مَالَج(mālaj), مَالَق(mālaq, trowel) and مَيْلَق(maylaq, touchstone, whetstone); from the stem of مالیدن(mâlidan, to rub, to smooth, to polish).
