Etymology

Inconspicuous, of a rare pattern yaFʿīL – otherwise found only in يَعْضِيد (yaʕḍīd, Launaea mucronata) and يَعْقِيد (yaʕqīd, thickened honey) – but connected to the root ق ط ن (q ṭ n), so perhaps from a Semitic substrate.
