From earlier چاکو (čākū) from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ckwc /⁠čakuč⁠/, hammer), from Avestan 𐬗𐬀𐬐𐬎𐬱 (cakuš, battle-axe), from Proto-Indo-European *keku- (cudgel, hammer shaped stick). Related to Ottoman Turkish چاقی (çakı).[1] Doublet of چکش (čakoš)
