[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀟𑀁𑀟𑀕 (ḍaṃḍaga), from Sanskrit दण्डक (daṇḍaka), from दण्ड (daṇḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-). Cognate with Hindi डाँड़ (ḍā̃ṛ) and दंड (daṇḍ), Bengali ডান্ডা (ḍanḍa), and Punjabi ਡੰਡਾ (ḍaṇḍā).
