Inherited from Prakrit *𑀤𑀸𑀤𑁆𑀤 (*dādda) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-). Cognate with Punjabi ਦਾਦਾ (dādā) / دادا (dādā), Kachchi ડાડો (ḍāḍo), Gujarati દાદો (dādo).
