From Aramaic זָכוּתָא (zāḵūṯā), By surface analysis, ܙܵܟ݂ܹܐ (zāḵē, “to be aquitted; to defeat”) +‎ -ܘܼܬ݂ܵܐ (-ūṯā, the abstract noun ending); compare Hebrew זְכוּת (zkhút, “right, merit”) and borrowed into Arabic زَكَاة (zakāh, “almsgiving”).⁩
