Etymology[edit]

From Aramaic חְזִירָן (ḥzīrān), from חְזִירָא (ḥzīrā’, boar), by association of Sirius, which rises in the summer, with the boar-god Ninurta; compare also borrowed into Arabic حَزِيرَان (ḥazīrān). Compare ܚܙܘܼܪܵܐ (ḥzūrā, pig).
