[edit]Ultimately derived from Phoenician 𐤍𐤍 (nn, literally “fish”) through Classical Syriac; compare Hebrew נוּן (nún), Arabic نُون (nūn) and Ancient Greek νῦ (nû). Doublet of ܢܘܼܢܵܐ (nūnā).
