Etymology
[edit]Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܩܪܛܝܣܐ, from Ancient Greek χᾰ́ρτης (khắrtēs, “sheet of paper”); also borrowed into Arabic قُرْطَاس (qurṭās) and Hebrew כַּרְטִיס (kartís). Doublet of ܟܲܪܛܵܐ (karṭā, “card”).
