From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hadyás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hadyás, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁e-dy-és, from *h₁é (“this”) + *déy-s ~ *dy-és, from *dey- (“day”) + *-s.[1]
