From Proto-Indo-European *gʰredʰ- (to walk, go), see also Avestan 𐬀𐬌𐬎𐬎𐬌𐬔𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬜𐬨𐬀𐬵𐬌(aiuuigərəδmahi, we begin), Old Church Slavonic грѧсти (gręsti)), Lithuanian gridyti, Gothic 𐌲𐍂𐌹𐌸𐍃 (griþs).[1]
