Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘙𑘜𑘹𑘽 (ṭhaṇeṃ), from Prakrit 𑀞𑀸𑀡𑀕 (ṭhāṇaga), from Sanskrit स्थानक (sthānaka). Compare Hindustani تَھانَا (thānā) / थाना (thānā), Nepali ठाउँ (ṭhāũ).
