Proto-New Indo-Aryan *डब्ब (ḍabba)
Hindi डाब
Inherited from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *डब्ब (ḍabba) of unknown substrate origin.[1] Doublet of डब्बा (ḍabbā). Compare Marathi डाव (ḍāv, “hollowed coconut”), Bengali ডাব (ḍabo), Odia ଡାବ (ḍāba, “raw coconut”). Also compare Swahili dafu, an Indo-Aryan borrowing.
