Etymology

    Inherited from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *डब्ब (ḍabba) of unknown substrate origin.[1] Doublet of डब्बा (ḍabbā). Compare Marathi डाव (ḍāv, hollowed coconut), Bengali ডাব (ḍabo), Odia ଡାବ (ḍāba, raw coconut). Also compare Swahili dafu, an Indo-Aryan borrowing.
