Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *dā́ru, from Proto-Indo-European *dóru. Cognates include Ancient Greek δρῦς (drûs), Old Persian 𐎭𐎠𐎽𐎺 (dāruv) and Old English trēow (English tree).
