[edit]The first element is from Sanskrit दु॒ग्ध (dugdhá, “milk”). The second element has been interpreted as -आरा (-ārā, agentive suffix).[1] McGregor, however, connects the word to Sanskrit *दुग्धहार (*dugdhahāra, literally “milk-carrying”), from दुग्ध (dugdha, “milk”) + हार (hāra, “bearing, carrying”).[2] Compare Gujarati દુધારો (dudhāro, “milkman”).
