Etymology

[edit]

The first element is from Sanskrit दु॒ग्ध (dugdhá, milk). The second element has been interpreted as -आरा (-ārā, agentive suffix).[1] McGregor, however, connects the word to Sanskrit *दुग्धहार (*dugdhahāra, literally milk-carrying), from दुग्ध (dugdha, milk) + हार (hāra, bearing, carrying).[2] Compare Gujarati દુધારો (dudhāro, milkman).
