Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *dáwṣas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dáwšas, from Proto-Indo-European *dews- (“to miss, lack, fail, lag, be behind”). Cognate with English tire and Ancient Greek δεύομαι (deúomai, “to lack”).[1][2]
