  1. the earth, ground.
    • c. 1500s CE, Tulsidas, Ramcharitmanas:
      जग कारन तारन भव भंजन धरनी भर। कि तुम्ह अखिल लोकपति लीन्ह मनुज अवतार॥
      jaga kārana tārana bhava bhaṃjana dharanī bhara. ki tumha akhila lokapati līnha manuja avatāra.
      "Are ye the Primal Cause of all, the stay of the weary [burdened] earth, who dissolveth the worldly chain? Or are ye the Sovereigns of every sphere, having donned this mortal veil as an avatar?"
