Inherited from Prakrit सारेइ (sārei, to make move, remove), from Sanskrit सा॒रय॑ति॒ (sāráyati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sāláyati, from Proto-Indo-European *sol–éye-ti, the causative of the root *sel- (to spring, jump). Related to सरकाना (sarkānā), सरसराना (sarsarānā), पसारना (pasārnā).
