Inherited from Prakrit 𑀳𑀟𑁆𑀟 (haḍḍa) (see there for more) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-) without cluster simplification, or directly borrowed from Sanskrit हड्ड (haḍḍa). By surface analysis, हड्डा (haḍḍā) + -ई (-ī). Cognate with Punjabi ਹੱਡੀ (haḍḍī).
