Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀕𑀁𑀕𑀸 (gaṃgā), which is from Proto-Indo-Aryan [Term?]. Cognate with Assamese গাঙ্গ (gaṅgo). Doublet of গঙ্গা (goṅga).
