[edit]Probably onomatopoeic.[1] Cognate with Kannada ಜಿಲ್ಲು (jillu), Kui (India) ଜିଲି (jili), Pengo ଜିଲ (jila), Telugu జిల్లు (jillu).[2] Compare also சிலிர் (cilir).
