[edit]Etymology
[edit]Suryanath U. Kamath considers the word ಗೌಡ (gauḍa) to be derived from ಗವುಂಡ (gavuṇḍa).[1] Gustav Oppert opined that the root of ‘Gowda’ is a Dravidian word meaning "mountain".[2] Cognate with Tamil கவுண்டர் (kavuṇṭar), கௌண்டர் (kauṇṭar).
