Usage notes
[edit]- അവൻ is used to refer to a male person who is far from the speaker (distal).
- In modern Malayalam, it is generally used for someone younger than the speaker, of equal status, or in informal/intimate contexts.
- To refer to an older male or someone deserving of respect, the honorific അദ്ദേഹം (addēhaṁ) or the formal ആൾ (āḷ) is preferred.
