അവൻ (avaṉm

  1. he (third-person masculine singular, distal)

Usage notes

[edit]
  • അവൻ is used to refer to a male person who is far from the speaker (distal).
  • In modern Malayalam, it is generally used for someone younger than the speaker, of equal status, or in informal/intimate contexts.
  • To refer to an older male or someone deserving of respect, the honorific അദ്ദേഹം (addēhaṁ) or the formal ആൾ (āḷ) is preferred.
[edit]
  • അവൾ (avaḷ, she (distal))
  • അവർ (avaṟ, they (people, distal); he/she (honorific))
  • അത് (atŭ, it (distal))
  • അവ (ava, they (things, distal))
  • ഇവൻ (ivaṉ, he (proximal))
