Etymology[edit]

Probably from Old Khmer rān (to invade, seize, or occupy (a territory)). Cognate with Modern Khmer រាន (riən, to encounter or confront (enemy in battle); to affront; to invade; etc). Extended as Thai รบาญ (rá-baan), รำบาญ (ram-baan), รำราญ.
