From Proto-Tai *χiəŋᴬ; cognate with Northern Thai ᨡ᩠ᨿᨦ, Lao ຂຽງ (khīang), Khün ᨡ᩠ᨿᨦ, Lü ᦵᦃᧂ (ẋeng), Shan ၶဵင် (khǎeng), Tai Nüa ᥑᥥᥒᥴ (xéng).
