[edit]From โทร (too-rá-, “far; remote”) + ทัศน์ (tát, “view; vision”); phono-semantic matching from English and calque of English television; coined by Prince Narathip Phong Praphan (1891–1976), Royal Society president. Compare Lao ໂທລະທັດ (thō la that) and Hindi दूरदर्शन (dūrdarśan), and see the Hindi for more on the components.
