Etymology

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (tiʼ "pare off ( end ) in order to make even; cut off a little bit"), while Luce 1981, considering only the derivative အတိ (a.ti., exactly), gives Old Chinese (OC *klje, *kljeʔ, “only”) as a cognate; this is phonetically unsound. Despite convergence in modern pronunciation, probably not related to (OC *tʰiːls, “to shave”).”
