From Proto-Tai *pwɤtᴰ (lung), from Old Chinese (OC *pʰobs, “lung”), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *p-wap (lung). Cognate with Thai ปอด (bpɔ̀ɔt), Lao ປອດ (pǭt), Phake ပ︀ွတ︀် (pot), Ahom *𑜆𑜨𑜄𑜫 (*pot), Zhuang bwt.
