Causative of ပျော် (pyau, “to melt, dissolve”). STEDT gives no etymology (phjɔ²² "dissolve (cause to)"), while Luce gives Old Chinese 附 (OC *bos, “to be added to”) and Tibetan སྦྱོར (sbyor, “to link, join, mingle”) as cognates.
