Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian ფქვილი (p’k’vili), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *pkw-il-, from the Proto-Kartvelian root *pek-, *pk- (equivalent to past participle of ფქვა (p’k’va), hence the -il- suffix). Cognate with Svan ფექ (p’ek’), Mingrelian ქვირი (k’viri) and Laz მქვერი (mk’veri), ფქვერი (p’k’veri).
