From Old Georgian ცხჳრი (c’xwri), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *c₁xwir-, from Proto-Kartvelian *c₁xwir-. Cognate with Mingrelian ჩხვინდი (č’xvindi) and Laz ჩხვინდი (č’xvindi).
