From Old Georgian ჯუარი (ǰuari), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *ʓ̌war-. Cognate with Mingrelian ჯგუნჯგი (ǰgunǰgi, spike) and Laz მზგუჯი (mzguǰi, stake, post).
