Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Hellenic *alégō (to care), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂leg-.

Pronunciation[edit]

Verb[edit]

ἀλέγω (alégō)

  1. (intransitive, usually negated) to care
  2. [+genitive] to care for

Usage notes[edit]

ἀλεγίζω (alegízō) and ἀλέγω (alégō) are both Epic, have similar meanings, and are both normally negated and used with the genitive (ἀλεγίζω always so). Ἀλεγίζω exists only in the present and imperfect, ἀλέγω only in the present.
