From ἐτεός (eteós, true) +‎ -κλῆς (-klês, fame). The reconstructed archaic form *Ἐτεϝοκλέϝης (*Etewokléwēs) has been connected to Hittite 𒋫𒉿𒂵𒆷𒉿 (Tawagalawa).
