Etymology[edit]

A simplified form of the caduceus, due to confusion in the United States between the caduceus and the rod of Asclepius, which itself is the masculine equivalent of the serpent-and-bowl symbol 🕏 of the goddess Hygieia. The original astronomical symbol was Hygieia's snake and a star, approximately 🝹.
