Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Ancient Greek Ποταμίανα (Potamíana) which is a translation of Demotic Tꜣ-pꜣ-ym (“the one of the sea”) (compare Coptic ⲧⲁⲡⲓⲁⲙ (tapiam) and Ancient Greek Ταφιῶμις (Taphiômis)).
