Etymology
[edit]omopi > omoɸi > omowi > omoi. The nominalized form of the verb 思う (omou). While not etymologically related, in the historical spelling, the final ひ was often associated with homophonous 火 (hi, “fire”), i.e. "emotions as hot as fire".
